remember how at the end of last year we switched rooms with the kids? the oldest 4 are all in our old bedroom, and we are now in their room (seen here). so here i am, finally showing you pics of how it turned out (and to give you a breather from all the babybaby posts! you're welcome.)
so anyway it's not anything you'd see on apartment therapy - everything is either found, thrifted or handmade - but if nothing else, it's proof you can decorate on teensy budget...all you need is great potential-spotting skills!
this is where Danny (2) and Monte (4) now sleep:
details::
Montetruck wallpaper: second hand, bought from Trade Me.
construction/transport headboard tutorial here.
war ship: gifted, handmade by an old neighbour long ago.
digger [excavator] cushion tutorial here.
quilt: made by my mother, fabric by Michael Miller.
small vintage Tonka trucks: thrifted for $3 each! (yah)
Danny
Danny's junior size bed: hand-me-down, vintage.
quilt: made by my mother
bedford truck label(?) on wall: hacksawed from a dumped truck.
vehicles hanging on door handle: trade aid
framed cowboy & indian picture: vintage jigsaw puzzle.
soldier russian nesting dolls: gift
paper mache sailing boat: handmade, adjusted from this tutorial by Ann Wood.
small chair: thrifted. cushion: handmade.
the clothes hanging on the door used to be JR's when he was a boy.

Thanks for sharing Dee, & BTW I'd never get sick of you baby posts! xxx
ReplyDeletehello lovely lady - love the little men's room. Especially love their gentlemen's robes - amazing finds. I die nearly every time I see them in the oppy because I know that we have no room for me to take them home....
ReplyDeletehi Bec, the men's robes are PERFECT for kids' clothes -especially in this room as there are no built in wardrobes.
Deleteone used to be my grandfather's and the other was JR's grandfather's. i love them.
what a great room, i love it all but that wall paper is especially awesome, great find
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing room - LOVE IT - and those quilts are brilliant

ReplyDeleteLove it so much Dee - especially the Russian dolls (and hubby was peeking over my shoulder and said he loved the ship!).
ReplyDeleteLove it! What a great space!! Loving your blog too! I am new to it. A kindred spirit...with the same name as me...rather cool!
ReplyDeletefrom,
another dee :)
I love it all - and you KNOW how much I love that wallpaper. (must get around to hanging our framed little piece! must add hooks to my shopping list.)
ReplyDeleteThe wee outfit hanging on the door is such a cute touch, that man of yours sure had some groovy gladrags.
Your little men's room totally rocks and in my opinion so much better than some of what you see on Apartment Therapy..it's a real lived in room with so many wonderful treasures :)

Oh my goodness that monkey on the bed is exactly the same as mine! I got him when I turned five and I am 35 now and have never seen another one! I still have him and love him as much as ever! Just found your blog, it's so lovely :)
ReplyDeleteMy parents got my monkey from Australia too. We're kiwis but we were living in The Solomon Islands at the time and I think Mum got an Aussie friend to send him over. So funny isn't it? I rather like the idea of there being another one in the world :)
