pinterest has been so kind to me and people are so encouraging with their comments, but every once in awhile i stumble across a dumb comment. like this one(click to enlarge)- it's not the first time - and although i know i don't need to, it makes me feel crappy so i want to explain...
1. the photo above was taken merely to show the restyled blazer.
2. i am not a photographer and never have claimed to be. i use a self-timer and a canon ixus (gasp!) point&shoot. that's how i roll.
3. the hanger was from the "before" shot of the sweater, i hadn't taken it down. my bad.
3. i stand on a chair because this room/wall has the best light in our home. but there is a bed in the way so unless i want shots from the knee up, i need to stand higher than the bed.
4. because of my height, i have to look down so my head misses the wooden ceiling frame. it's not because i "saw a mouse" (like someone else suggested)
see?
so, we cool?
i'm just gonna keep doing my thing now mkay?
(oh, and don't be haters when you comment on pins. that's just dumb. ta)
X

You tell em love! Personally I love your 'on-chair' look - those cute slim pegs of yours are so endearing especially the way you always have one leg ever so slightly turned inwards - its so coy and cute all at the same time.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I was thinkin', "Man, I wish I could take photos like Dee." Go figure. ;)
ReplyDeleteI just can't believe someone would actually be writing something like that. and you know I think you rock. xx
ReplyDeletesnort. some people have waaaaay to empty minds to be picking on such things. pfft
ReplyDeletego you Dee. you roll good.
and yeah totally with you on the "if you have nothing to say nice say nothing at all" in pinterest
all those haters should switch off their computers and go for a walk outside ;)
I'd always wondered why you were looking down, now I know :). Whenever I see comments like that I always think how petty they are - Widge is right they should just go for a walk!
ReplyDeleteYeah I think that your photos are choice! Damn keyboard warriors need to take a hike. I will post about my own experience with this type of coward next week.
ReplyDeleteeek some people are so rude! I like the chair shots and the downward look (even if it is just to avoid the bed and wooden beam!!)
ReplyDeletedidn't their mothers teach them 'if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything' grrrrr I had a hater comment on my blog the other day and whilst I chose NOT to publish the comment it did get to me for the rest of the day AND has altered what I chose to publish this week ;'(
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your photos and I LOVE you standing on the chair - thanks for the explanation though LOL xxx
Keep on being YOU xxx
you tell 'em. personally I loooove standing on chair shots. has this person not heard of bench monday? sheesh. http://www.flickr.com/groups/1040132@N20/pool/
ReplyDeleteDee your chair shots rock!!! Keep rolling how you roll chick...we love it :)
ReplyDeletewhat the!!! i love them Dee.
ReplyDeletewhat a tart
Oh these silly people! I seriously think you take the most stylish photos! I know how awkward it is to find a place in your house with good lighting and plain walls - I still don't know how to get a full body shot so you are amazing for having figured it out!!
ReplyDeleteI've found a nasty comment about a family member in one of my pins - yes it hurt (cause I love my family wrinkles and all) but hey, you just have to shake it off. xoxo
p.s. chairs + coat-hangers + mustard = best pics EVER!!
Man, it's so logical for you to take your photos that way! Have they not seen the thousands of terrible 'selfsie' portraits out there - you know, hand (with camera) held over head = oversized head (cropped badly), no legs, and just a smidge of the outfit you are trying to convey?
ReplyDeleteYou're selfies are AWESOME compared to shots like the ones I just described (if you're confused - go and look at the 'Wardrobe Wednesday's I used to publish - you'll get what I mean).
p.s. they prob just wish they could rock an outfit like you can!
It truely amazes me how obnoxious some people are..I heart you pics...every one...I especially heart the chair! I think I may have mentioned that before! You're awesom-ness for telling em to 'stick it' in your beautifully diplomatic way! xxxx
ReplyDeleteI think you look great, and stylish!
ReplyDeleteI understand the need to do your photos the way you do. I really don't have anywhere good to take photos in my flat. So often a blanket is draped over my oil heater, a hat on my couch...
Ignore the dumb people ;)
You take the cutest pics Dee, what a silly comment!!!
ReplyDeleteStill love that skirt of yours!! lol
I think your response to that comment is awesome. You needn't have explained to anyone but the way you broke it down was perfect nonetheless. And to think, your stylish photos turned out as such due to a bed, a limit on light and a jolly ceiling fan! I never thought they looked contrived, I've always just wished to have your legs and long hair LOL! BTW, my word verification for this comment is mouse (how cheeky is that?!).
ReplyDeleteGirl, you look fantastic and the picture was cute and creative. Rise above the haters.
ReplyDeletewell I went to art shcool and took photography for plus years and I actually think it is a great photo!ignore them :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how this works. No matter if we are on the world wide web or a small dinner party. Every person can give wonderful compliments and comments and then all it takes is just one person with something negative to say and it gets us where it hurts(and usually stays with us).
ReplyDeleteI hope the 100's of people that love you and your blog can reassure you that WE are the majority. Pray for that commenter and wish for her the kindness that she didn't show you.
You should just reply that in your spare time you use the chair to bash off the heads of people making stupid comments.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought your shots were cute. I thought you were being artistic by standing on the chair and tilting your head. :-) And it is just rude to comment on how someone takes a picture. If they don't like it, they don't have to look at it. Ignore all the haters and keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I wonder what kind of "photographer" they are any way..
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing one of your photos on pinterest before I followed you and thinking "why didn't I think of that?" The designer in me likes it. Very eye catching.
I love your photos. Your work is gorgeous & only haters can strive to find "flaws" in ANYTHING. I am totally with your final comment. When I see mean comments on pins, (or FB photos), all I think is, if you don't like it/if it "drives the photographer in you nuts", then why waste your time/energy obsessing over it? Don't pin it. Don't continue looking at it. Just move on & get over it. Jeesh. (To Widge: empty minds indeed :) & cowards. )
ReplyDeleteLove you photos, love your style, love the damn coat hanger dangling in the back, that commenter is JEALOUS. love YOU, Dee (Jen)
ReplyDeleteDee, I love to read your blog and see all the creative things you do. I am amazed how creative you are AND you raise 4 gorgeous kids!I can't believe somone wrote a mean comment - what a waste of time and energy. Keep on being inspiring! Megan E
ReplyDeleteI am with Angela on this one... always loved the way you take your pics!! hate to think what they would say about any of MY photos!! You look fab my friend. Keep it up.
ReplyDeletegood for you! I always struggle with my photos too. we can't all be creative geniuses in every genre, just some!
ReplyDeleteHa ha Dee! I love your approach to explaining rather than being spiteful. I always love your photos I look down in mine because I think it looks so cool in yours. I never even realsied people could comment on pins etc. I self time too. What a weird thing for soemone to be spiteful about - I guess that proves you're in the big leagues if someone is taking your 'work' that seriously. I love the way you clothing shoot.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could take good self taken photos - mine are crap. Yours are great! I hope that cyber bully reads this and learns their lesson!
ReplyDeleteSO rude... just do your thing! You always look gorgeous in your photos!
ReplyDeleteI would like the person to explain what about being a photographer encourages chair hatred? I am a keen (not professional) photographer, and my only though about the chair was 'that chair is nice'.
ReplyDeleteMind you, I have to stand on a chair to see my whole outfit in the only big mirror we have.
Hey there! I've seen your photos all over Pinterest, and let me tell you... You're incredibly inspiring! The things you can create are just plain awesome!
ReplyDeleteAs far as the whole chair thing goes, I understand where you're coming from. I have a super tiny apartment and can only take photos in one spot, and only in the afternoon when the sun is shining through one particular window. I say, just keep doing what you're doing! It's workin' for you, so why change it! :)
PS - So excited to find your blog and start following!
Hi Dee this is such a funny post really..you've kind addressed something that was irking you in a lighthearted way. very cool. i am a big fan of 'if you can't something nice, don't say anything at all'
ReplyDeletei just thought what a cool idea it was to stand on a chair and i had considered it must be a good place for lighting in your house (that's the photographer in ME). when i joined pinterest it said something about only nice comments so i took that seriously and even though sometimes i've wanted to be negative I remember I'm not supposed to cos the instructions said i couldn't! haha
ReplyDeleteDon't pay any attention to negativity!! The funny thing about the chair is that I only noticed it because I have a couple just like it!! And I always thought you looked down to not draw attention to the model but the clothing!! You are super talented and very inspiring!! Keep up the good work!!
ReplyDeleteThis sweatshirt re-make was a guru move--I'm a photographer, if I'm ever in NZ I will take your pictures! Nice work! Loved this. inspiring!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw your photograph, I repined it immediately, my first thought was, what a terrific idea...my second thought was, how beautiful the model is....
ReplyDeleteYeah, her jealousy really came shining through in her comment...and after reading it, I looked at your picture again, and it really is a wonderful photo...
I thought your pics were pretty cool. Can't believe how rude some people are. Obviously they have issues within themselves.
ReplyDeleteWell you just got one more follower due to that lumphead cos I like you photos and your blog. You shouldn't have to explain yourself its your space and you can express yourself anyway you like. They can just take go get a life!!!
ReplyDeleteWill look for you on Pinterest too. BTW found my way here via Meet me at Mikes and Pips troll encounter.

wow, really? people comment like that?
ReplyDeleteall this time I thought you were being effortlessly artsy and creative! I love you even more now that i see the "keeping it real" behind the scene stuff! xo!
This is so great - I just found this post from today's post and have seen your chair photos before and wondered what they were about. This is so great and so sassy - I just love how you explain the practicalities of taking photos and shatter any hipster illusions.
