my mum made overalls for us when we were kids and i've been wanting to make some for the boys for ages. so while there were 75% less kids around i decided to tackle it.
this was the pattern i was given - a 30-40 year old Plunket nightwear pattern. the circled writing on the right were my only instructions (clearly produced at a time when all the mamas knew how to sew!! - my instructions for inserting the zip were literally, "sew in zip". right....). it was my first ever attempt at sewing a collar and the intructions weren't any more generous with that either!
we got there...kinda (except the piece i totally left out and discovered about half an hour after "finishing" them!)
i was thinking about why overalls used to be more popular and i think it was that kids used to have MUCH LESS clothes, and the priority was to keep the clothes they did have clean. also, doing the laundry was more of a big deal than our little push-the-button-and-have-a-coffee effort!
